Śrī Bhagavān said –
To you who are devoid of the carping spirit, I shall communicate knowledge of God combined with the most profound secrets of knowledge by knowing which you will be freed from evil.

This is sovereign knowledge, sovereign secret, hallowed and excellent, the means by which God (the Eternal Witness) is realised, the means of knowing Dharma, supreme Lord), easy to achieve and everlasting.

O slayer of foes, men who have no faith in the knowledge relating to Dharma-this supporter, the Lord – do not come to Me, but only return to the path of Samsāra.

The whole world is pervaded by Me of Unmanifest Form. All beings are supported by Me, but I do not support Myself on any of them.

The beings are not resting on Me (i.e. I am not affected by their contact with Me). Behold My Supreme Power, Myself who is the creator am the Support for all beings, I do not seek support in them. (Note: The Lord’s Body is not different from His Essence).

Just as the mighty air exists in space around moving everywhere (without experiencing the sense of touch) know thou that all beings abide on Me, similarly.

O Kunti’s son, during dissolution all beings enter into Prakṛti that is Mine and who is under My control, consisting of Satva, Rajas and Tamasic qualities, and at the beginning of every Kalpa (creation) I bring them into being again.

Taking hold of My Prakṛti which is subject to my control and which is composed of Satva, Rajas and Tāmasic qualities, I bring into being this multitude of beings which are under the power of Prakṛti who is in turn under my control (Avaśaṃ).

Those actions of creations do not bind me, O Dhanañjaya, as I remain indifferent as it were and unattached to those actions.

Under my direct supervision, Prakṛti produces the moving and unmoving creation; because of this, O Kunti’s son, the world becomes caught up in the whirl of creation.

The ignorant disregard Me as one possessing a human body, not knowing my Supreme eternal and perfect nature.

They are baffled in their hope (not being able to get what they desire); their sacrificial and other acts are in vain, their knowledge serves no purpose and they are devoid of sense and judgement and fall under the influence of demons and devils deceptive by nature.

But, O Pārtha, the Mahātma-s (great souls) who possess the qualities of those who are eligible for Mokṣa know Me as the cause of all beings worship Me with undistracted mind.

Always glorifying Me, firmly exerting themselves, steadfast in vows, bowing to Me with devotion, they worship Me always setting their mind on Me.

Others however, worship Me with Jñānayajña (i.e. studying, thinking of Me, and imparting knowledge of Me) and meditate on Me as one who is the same in every being yet, differing from all the the world, and at the same time manifold, in these Forms, supreme and present anywhere.

I am the Ritual, I am the Sacrifice, I am the Offering made to Pitṛ-s (forefathers) such as Tilodaka. I am the Medicinal Herb, the Sacred Syllable; the Butter, the Sacred Fire and the Offerings into the fire (I am all these in the sense that I am the Director of these acts and objects and also the Enjoyer thereof).

I am the Father of this World, the mother, the Supporter, the Person to be revered, the One to be known, the Holy one, the Sacred syllable (AUM) as also the Ṛg, Sāma, and Yajur (Vedas).

I am the Goal, the Lord Master Eternal witness, Abode, Refuge, Friend, Origin and Dissolution, Foundation, Receptacle and the Imperishable Seed.

O Arjuna, I give heat to the world (through the sun), withhold and send forth rains, I am Amṛta or Immortality and also Death manifest and Unmanifest, Perfect and second to none.

The Knowers of the three vedas who, contented with their superficial meaning, drink the Soma juice, are released from sin and worship with sacrifices. They pray to Me for the attainment of Svarga (Heaven) and ascending to the holy world of Indra, the Ruler of the gods, enjoy the celestial pleasures in Heaven.

But having enjoyed the extensive heavenly world, they return to this world of mortals when the stock of their good deeds becomes exhausted. Thus following the same path of deities enjoined by the three Vedas and seeking worldly enjoyment, they are caught up by the see-saw of rise to heaven and fall to earth.

But on those devotees who worship Me, thinking of none else, who have devoted their mind to Me are ever preserving in My service and in contemplating on Me, I confer that permanent heavenly abode from which there is no return to mundane life.

O Kunti’s son, even the devotees of other gods, who worship them with faith and finally offer the deed to Me, worship Me alone ultimately, though not in the way prescibed in the Śāstra-s.

I am indeed the enjoyer of all sacrifices and their sole Lord but the Traividyas do not truly know Me, and therefore, they fall down to earth from heaven.

Those who take to the worship of gods go to the gods, the worshippers of Pitṛ-s (Manes) go to them, those that worship the Bhūta-s (such as Saptamātri etc.) go to the Bhūta-s, likewise, My worshippers come unto Me.

That which is offered to me with devotion be it a leaf, a flower, fruit, or water, that devout offering by him who is unattached to objects and is thus devoted to Me, I do accept.

O Kunti’s son, whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer into the fire, whatever you give, what austerities you practise dedicate the same as an offering to Me (with a clear notion that you are not an independent agent and that all acts are prompted by God and therefore, they are to be rendered to Him).

By doing thus, you will be freed from the bonds of Karma which yield both good and evil fruits. Having renounced the fruits of duties as enjoined, you will become free and come to me.

Equally impartial am I to all beings (none that I hate or love more than what one would deserve for his nature). But they that worship Me with devotion are under my grace and I favour them in proportion to their devotion to Me.

Even though a true devotee does perform (sometimes) an improper act, if he worships Me with devotion, he should be regarded as righteous for he has in him a correct, single-minded and true knowledge of Me (the Lord).

O Kunti’s son, that person who, though well with devotion doing improper acts knows Me, quickly becomes a righteous soul and attains eternal peace (Mokśa). Know it for certain that My devotees never perish – so invaluable is devotion to me.

O Pārtha, even those who out of sinful acts have been born in inferior lives as women, Vaishyas and Śūdras and are yet devoted to Me, attain the highest goal.

How much more then, the holy Brahmins and devoted loyal saints? Having been born in this joyless and evanescent world, do worship Me.

Fix your mind on Me, be devoted to Me, offer your sacrifice to Me, and prostrate yourself before Me. Concentrating your mind thus on Me, and regarding Me your supreme goal, you will come to Me.
